Super Mario alas did for England, as did Sterling's inability to score. We needed 2 Harry Kanes up front! Oh well, there's always 2022.
Onto today and it is the Europa League. I really cannot see the point in researching the Europa League. It is hard enough with established sides, much less the likes of Pyunik, Luftetari, Chikhura Sachkhere, Kesla, KF Laci, and Milsami. Those famous hotbeds of football.
Yesterday's Champions League matches saw a number of shock results (when compared to the pre-match odds) which suggests that the only course of action you have as a trader in the Europa League is via the in-play stats. is my favourite free resource. This site covers the 3 main stats - shots on target/off target and corners. Just with those 3 stats, you can get a feel for dominant teams and likely goals to come is another website with excellent free in-play stats, albeit you can view only one match at a time. is another excellent free in-play stats resource. I think requires a log in in order to access the stats we want (shots and corner stats). The advantage with is that you can view all of the matches on the one page.
There are a few familiar names in the Europa League tonight. I'll list those matches below.

17:00 - KuPS v FC Copenhagen - 1.58 FC Copenhagen

  • Finland v Denmark. We know that the finnish league is in full flow.
  • Only 2 wins in 8 though for KuPS. They were last in the Europa League in 2012.
  • FC Copenhagen have been reliant upon friendlies at the moment to keep them fit. They tend to go deeper into the Europa League but get unstuck v the big guns such as Atl Madrid or Ajax. No win in 5 aways. They are playing weaker opponents today.

17:00 - Levadia Tallinn v Dundalk - 2.58 Dundalk

  • Estonia v Ireland. We are familiar with Dundalk who are top 2 in the Irish Premier Division.
  • In 2017, Levadia lost 0-2 and 4-2 to Cork City. Cork City are first in the Irish Premier Division.
  • Dundalk were last in the Europa League in 2016, losing to Zenit,AZ and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
  • Can we use Levadia's scorelines v Cork City as recently as last year, in order to gauge this match? If so, then be with Dundalk here.

19:45 - Hibernian v NSI Runavik - 1.12 Hibernian

  • Hibernian were last in the Europa League in 2016, then 2013, 2010, 2005, 2001.
  • They failed to score in 5 of their last 6 matches.
  • NSI are a faroe islands side.
  • The market expects Hibs from Scotland to break that poor Europa League record today. 3/4 goals expected (Ludogorets were about these odds yesterday and scored 7 goals).

19:45 - Rangers v KF Shkupi - 1.08 Rangers

  • Steve Gerrard's first competitive match at home so expect a comfortable win in line with the odds ( as above regarding Ludogorets scoreline - that's what Rangers should be aiming for).
  • Shkupi are a Macedonian team.
  • Rangers were last in the Europa League last year, 1-0 win at home v progres Niederkorn and losing 2-0 to them away.
  • This suggests that Rangers are layable at 1.09 today. Who the BLEEP are Progres Niederkorn? Similarly, who the bleep are KF Shkupi?
  • If the market is correct, expect 4+ goals from Rangers.

The lays yesterday proved effective, at least the lay of Roger Federer as Kevin Anderson held on to eventually win. A nice return and Federer's odds were far too short versus a fellow top 10 player.
Today's matches see the ladies' semi finals. Again, too tough to call. Profits are made in Grand Slams in the early rounds. I would lay Serena Williams at 1.29 though. She did lose the first set in her quarter final match.
