ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

12:30 - Brighton v Chelsea - 1.51 Chelsea

Brighton (16th)

  • Only 1 win in 12.
  • Last 2 wins were 1-0.
  • Recent 2-0 loss to Chelsea part of a run of 3 matches in 4 conceding 2 goals.
  • 6 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • All defeats to top 6.
  • 9 of 12 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Chelsea (4th)

  • Only 4 defeats.
  • Only 1 win in 5 away.
  • 5 clean sheets in 6 matches.
  • 100% wins v 13th and lower.

Conclusions

  • Chelsea are keeping clean sheets but failed to score v 10 men last match.
  • Very recent 2-0 win over Brighton should be replicated today given Brighton are conceding 2 goals of late.
  • Note Brighton's 6 0-0's at halftime - if they pull it off again 0-2 2nd half?

15:00 - Arsenal v C Palace - 1.56 Arsenal

  • The first thing to note is that this is a London derby. Arsenal are also without Sanchez and maybe Ozil and that swung things in Bournemouth's favour last match.
  • I cannot really research this Arsenal side as the personnel changes are so significant.
  • Arsenal are 6th and having a mare!
  • They have scored in 11 at home and only lost to Man Utd.
  • Palace are under new management and solid. No defeat in 5 and only Arsenal beat them in their last 12 matches.
  • I am not sure of the strength of the Arsenal side, particularly up front. If Sanchez and Ozil are missing, that's the 2nd and 3rd highest scorers.
  • Lacazette is actually top scorer.
  • No angles here for me until I see team news.

15:00 - Burnley v Man Utd - 1.6 Man Utd

  • 0-2 United away and 2-2 in the last 2 head to heads.

Burnley (7th)

  • A great season but rather one dimensional.
  • No win in 6 now.
  • No draw in 7 at home.
  • 6 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Defeats v top 6 at home.
  • 6 of 8 goals conceded at home came 2nd half.

Man Utd (2nd)

  • Only 3 defeats.
  • Scored 2 goals at least in 5 of their last 6 matches.
  • Scored 2+ goals in their last 5 aways.
  • Scored 2 goals + v 6th - 12th inclusive home and away.

Conclusions

  • 2-2 the last time these 2 met was a very rare occasion Burnley scored 2 goals.
  • Man Utd are in a nice pattern for scoring 2 goals and if continuing should naturally win.
  • They may have to wait til 2nd half. Strong 0-0 halftime pattern Burnley.
  • I cannot see Burnley winning this. 1-0 would be their best case but United are in good attacking nick.

15:00 - Everton v West Brom - 2.3 Everton

  • New manager both sides so head to heads are irrelevant.
  • 9 games in for each manager and 9 games will be my focus for both sides.

Everton (9th)

  • 3 wins and a draw v Liverpool in Big Sam's first 4 matches. But now 2 0-0's and 3 defeats v Bournemouth, Man Utd and Tottenham. The latter 2, I suppose are not necessarily a shock.
  • Win, Win, Draw, Loss at home under Big Sam.
  • Failed to score in 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Conceded 2+ goals in each of their last 3 matches.

West Brom (19th)

  • Only win in 9 came last match. Only time they scored 2 goals under Pardew came last match.
  • Loss, Draw, Loss, Loss away under Pardew.

Conclusions

  • Not for me thanks. Everton conceding 2+ goals will want that to stop. West Brom scoring 2 goals for the first match under Pardew will want that to continue. 2 new managers yet to really get their messages across.

15:00 - Leicester v Watford - 1.9 Leicester

  • Leicester won the last home head to head 3-0.

Leicester (8th)

  • 3 losses and a draw ends with a win and draw last 2 matches.
  • 2-3 goals scored in their last 2 home matches.
  • No 0-0 at home.
  • Wins v 5th, 7th and 9th suggests an ability to cope to 10th?

Watford (10th)

  • 2 goal a game Watford returned last match to turn 0-2 Southampton into 2-2.
  • Only 1 win in 10 matches was.....a 2-1 v Leicester on 26th December 2017.
  • Conceded in their last 10 matches.
  • No away 0-0.
  • All defeats v top 12 away.

Conclusions

  • Watford should be opposed on form. A reminder last match that they do have 2 goals in them, but on the occasions they scored 2 goals v top 12, they lost.
  • My ideal here? A Watford 0-2 lead as I would lay them at nice short odds.
  • Leicester are back scoring 2+ goals last 2 at home. I am with them today.

15:00 - Stoke v Huddersfield - 2.06 Stoke

  • Caretaker manager for Stoke puts a dampener on this match from a form reading perspective.
  • 3 losses failing to score for Stoke. Trouble brewing and a bottom 3 berth.
  • 3 Stoke home wins came v bottom 4 sides.
  • Huddersfield themselves have only beaten 10th and 12th away and are on a 2 match losing run.
  • Not a match which appeals to me for its unreadability.

15:00 - West Ham v Bournemouth - 2.06 West Ham

  • 12 matches into David Moyes tenure and I will only focus on those matches.

West Ham (11th)

  • Only 1 loss in 8 matches was a 2-3 v Newcastle.
  • Since 3 losses and a draw in their first 4 matches under Moyes, he has got West Ham scoring, winning or drawing.
  • Win, Draw, Loss, Win at home under Moyes. Not bad when you note 2 of the teams were Chelsea and Arsenal.
  • There is a real pattern here. Against big teams, West Ham scored 1, 1, 0, 1. Against lesser lights, West Ham have scored 3-2-3-2-4 goals.
  • This looks a deliberate targeting by Moyes . Question. Are Bournemouth 'lesser lights'? If so then this is our angle.

Bournemouth ( 13th)

  • Draw, Win, Draw, Win last 4, includes a very recent 3-3 v West Ham.
  • Beat Everton and Arsenal at home recently 2-1.
  • Conceded in their last 10 matches.
  • Not beaten a top 12 sides away.

Conclusions

  • I am going to stick with my theory that West Ham will be targeting 2+ goals v these lesser lights and enter the match on that basis. It worked v Huddersfield and West Brom when both of those teams scored first.
  • I will lay Bournemouth if they lead. Good form recently but wins coming at home. The win v Arsenal I am not taken with. It was not the Arsenal first team.

17:30 - Man City v Newcastle - 1.13 Man City

Man City (1st)

  • Sole loss last match 4-3 v Liverpool.
  • 10 consecutive home wins scoring 2+ goals in each of those 10 matches.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • 100% wins v 13th and lower home and away.
  • 27 of 29 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Newcastle United (15th)

  • Only 1 loss in 5 was a 0-1 loss v Manchester City.
  • 2 consecutive away wins v West Ham and Stoke.
  • No 0-0 away.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime away.
  • Not beaten a top 10 side. All defeats away v top 7.

Conclusions

  • Newcastle conceded 3 and 4 goals v top 4 away and that fits in with the 1.13 odds for City today.
  • City should score 2 goals at least today.
  • Newcastle will attempt to replicate the home match where they kept City to 0-1.

FRENCH LIGUE 1

16:00 - Nantes v Bordeaux - 2 Nantes

  • 0-1 Bordeaux and 1-1 in the last 2 head to heads.

Nantes (5th)

  • 3 1-0 scorelines in 4 matches.
  • 1-0 win and 0-1 loss last 2 matches.
  • Not scored that 2nd goal in 9 matches now.
  • No draw in 8 at home.
  • All wins at home v 7th and lower - all one goal in it - i.e. 2-1 or 1-0.

Bordeaux (13th)

  • 10 losses in 14 matches. Only 2 wins there.
  • 1-0 loss and 0-1 win last 2 away matches.
  • Failed to score in 4 of 5 matches.
  • Not beaten a top 17 team away.
  • 12 goals conceded first half away.

Conclusions

  • This does all point to a 1-0/0-1 win today. Not sure for who. I would tend towards Nantes here given Bordeaux's woeful away record v top 17 teams.
  • You might want to back 0-0 here in anticipation of a low scoring match. I tend to trade out at halftime there.

19:00 - Montpellier v Toulouse - 1.77 Montpellier

  • 3 consecutive 1-0 Toulouse wins in head to heads.

Montpellier (8th)

  • Only 2 losses in 16 matches.
  • 7 draws in 10 matches though.
  • 7 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Only scored 2 goals on 2 occasions at home.

Toulouse (19th)

  • 6 defeats in 8 matches.
  • 5 consecutive away defeats.
  • Only 1 away win.

Conclusions

  • Montpellier are hardly setting this league alight. Only 2 losses in 16 though suggests worst case for them today is a draw.
  • Do not be surprised with a 0-0 at halftime but take it on in the second half.
  • Toulouse do 1-0's v Montpellier but may find it hard to keep a clean sheet.

19:00 - Strasbourg v Dijon - 2.06 Strasbourg

  • 1-1 in the 2017 head to head.

Strasbourg (12th)

  • 3 consecutive losses.
  • 3 wins in 4 at home prior to that run.
  • Only 1 loss in 11 matches too prior to that 3 match losing run.
  • Only 3 clean sheets.
  • 2 losses at home v 16th were wins v 1st and 9th.

Dijon (11th)

  • 5 consecutive away defeats.
  • Only 2 clean sheets.
  • Conceded in their last 10 away matches.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime away.
  • Only away win v bottom side.
  • Conceded 2 goals at least in all bar 2 away matches.

Conclusions

  • Dijon are poor away from home. Enough to expect them not to win today.
  • Strasbourg are in good recent form.
  • Do expect Dijon to concede at some point. They tend to concede 2 goals away so if 0-1 or 1-1 late on, take a chance and lay Dijon/draw?

19:00 - ESTAC Troyes v Lille - 2.8 Troyes

  • 1-3 Troyes and 2-2 in the last 2 head to heads.
  • The odds suggest a match to leave alone. It is my last match to research in France so I will research it.

Troyes (18th)

  • 6 losses in 7 matches.
  • No draw in 12 matches.
  • 9 halftime scorelines at home either 0-0 or 0-1.
  • Far better at home v 14th and lower with 3 wins and a 0-0 so despite poor recent form, are playing a team in the right end of the league for them.

Lille (17th)

  • No draw in 9 away.
  • Again poor v other sides but v fellow bottom 4 strugglers, Lille are unbeaten.

Conclusions

  • Again the market looks spot on here. Both sides are strugglers but don't struggle v fellow strugglers! Both teams look  able to beat a fellow bottom 4 side.
  • A single angle may be to lay any late draw as both sides have shown a propensity to avoid draws.

14:30 - Freiburg v RB Leipzig - 2.1 Leipzig

  • 4-0 and 4-1 Leipzig in the last 2 head to heads.
  • SC Freiburg have drawn the first half in 8/10 home matches as have RB Leipzig in 5/8 away matches against bottom-six teams.
  • There have been -2.5 goals in 9/11 SC Freiburg home matches.

Freiburg (14th)

  • Unbeaten in 6 matches. 2 consecutive score draws.
  • Only 1 home loss this season.
  • 7 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Not yet beaten a top 5 side.
  • 0-1 v 3rd and 0-0 v 4th. Defensive set up?
  • Conceded 2 goals only once at home.
  • 5 of 6 goals conceded at home came 2nd half.

Leipzig (2nd)

  • Only 3 clean sheets.
  • In 11 of 14 matches at least one team scored at least 2 goals.
  • Only 2 0-0's at halftime.
  • Conceded in their last 7 away matches.
  • Only 1 loss v 9th and lower home and away.
  • Scored 2 goals at least v 14th and lower home and away.

Conclusions

  • Leipzig have loved meeting Freiburg.
  • On form, Freiburg might keep it to 0-0 at halftime. On form Leipzig have a chance of scoring 2 goals as they tend to v 14th and lower.
  • On form, despite Freiburg in good recent form, I would have to look to Leipzig not to lose.

14:30 - Hoffenheim v Leverkusen - 2.46 Leverkusen

  • Hoff are unbeaten in the last 4 head to heads.
  • Hoffenheim have won the first half in 7/8 home matches against top-six teams while Leverkusen have conceded first in 16/20 away matches against top-half teams.
  • Hoffenheim have scored first in 18/20 home matches.

Hoffenheim (8th)

  • 18 matches under new management - this season.
  • Only 3 wins in 12 matches.
  • 2 consecutive home wins though.
  • Failed to score in only 2 matches.
  • Only 5 losses all season. Last 3 losses were away.
  • Scored in their last 9 at home.
  • No 0-0.
  • 5 1-0 leads at halftime at home - 55% of matches.
  • Only 1 home loss v 6th.
  • 6 of 7 goals conceded away came 2nd half.
  • Scored first in 8/9 at home.

Leverkusen (5th)

  • Only 1 loss in 13 matches was last match v Bayern Munich.
  • Scored in every match.
  • No defeat in 6 away.
  • No 0-0.
  • 2 of 4 losses came v Bayern Munich.
  • Scored and conceded in 7 of 9 matches.
  • Only 1 win v top 8 saw 5 score draws, and both teams scoring in all matches.
  • 13 of 17 goals scored away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • The market cannot split the sides and it seems on form, that both teams will score and we may head to another score draw. I would be keener to lay Hoffenheim if Hoff scored first.
  • I would lay any long 1-0 /0-1 leader or indeed 2-0/0-2 leader.
  • Hoff are more likely to concede 2nd half than first half so note that if the Hoff lead at halftime

14:30 - Mainz v Stuttgart - 2.66 Mainz

  • FSV Mainz 05 have won 7/9 home matches against bottom-six teams while VfB Stuttgart have lost 8/9 away matches.
  • VfB Stuttgart have conceded first in 8/9 away matches.
  • Draw, Stuttgart, Mainz last 3 head to heads.

Mainz (15th)

  • Only 4 wins.
  • Conceded 2 goals at least in each of their last 6 matches.
  • Only 2 clean sheets.
  • No 0-0.
  • Wins at home v 11th, 17th and 18th.

Stuttgart (13th)

  • 4 losses in their last 5 matches.
  • 4 1-0 scorelines in 5 matches, 3 were losses.
  • 8 losses and a draw in their last 9 away.
  • Failed to score in 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Conceded in all away matches.
  • Opponents tend to score first.

Conclusions

  • Oh boy. Only 4 wins plays an away side with all defeats bar a draw away.
  • Not a match of interest for me. Tough to pick a favoured side.

14:30 - Mgladbach v Augsburg - 2.14 Mgladbach

  • 1-1 and 2-2 in the last 2 head to heads.

Mgladbach (6th)

  • Only 1 win in 5 matches.
  • Only 3 clean sheets.
  • Scored and conceded in their last 6 at home.
  • No 0-0.
  • Beat Bayern at home, drew v 3rd, losses v 5th and 9th and play 7th today.
  • 9 of 11 goals conceded at home came 2nd half.

Augsburg (7th)

  • Only 5 defeats.
  • Failed to score in only 3 matches.
  • 3-3-2 conceded away v 1st, 3rd and 8th.

Conclusions

  • Gaps in form makes this tough to read.
  • Note any 0-0 at halftime. Mgladbach score mostly 2nd half.

14:30 - Wolfsburg v Eintracht Frankfurt - 2.18 Wolfsburg

  • 3 consecutive wins to nil for Wolfsburg.
  • There have been -2.5 goals in 8/11 Wolfsburg home matches against middle-third teams and in 11/20 E. Frankfurt away matches.
  • E. Frankfurt have conceded first in 11/19 away matches.

Wolfsburg (12th)

  • Only 4 defeats but 12th? That is because of 11 draws.
  • 3 draws in their last 4 matches includes 2 0-0's - not the usual score draws.
  • Unbeaten in 8 at home.
  • 5 score draws in 6 matches at home v 8th and lower.
  • 9 of 12 goals conceded away came 2nd half.

Frankfurt (9th)

  • 2 consecutive score draws.
  • Scored and conceded in 11 of their last 13 matches.
  • Conceded in their last 13 matches.
  • Unbeaten away v 6th and lower.
  • Scored and conceded in all bar 2 away.
  • 8 of 11 goals scored away came 1st half.

Conclusions

  • Both teams to score anyone? A strong pattern for both teams.
  • Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market. Frankfurt are more likely to score first half.
  • 1-1, 2-2 correct scores potentials for trading?

17:30 - Hamburg v FC Koln - 2.04 Hamburg

  • 2-1 and 1-3 Hamburg in the last 2 head to heads.

Hamburg (17th)

  • Only 2 wins in 16 matches.
  • 2 0-0's and 3 losses in the last 5 matches.
  • Beat Koln 1-3 earlier this season.

Koln (18th)

  • New manager 4 matches in.
  • 3-4 loss v Freiburg should have been a win. It was 3-2 until the 89th minute.
  • 1-0 loss v Bayern Munich.
  • 2 consecutive home wins.
  • What a difference!

Conclusions

  • I must favour Koln under their new manager. There is no reason why Hamburg are near evens here. I would lay Hamburg if Hamburg scored first.
  • I like what I see from Koln under their new manager. An almost immediate change.

ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP

15:00 - Fulham v Burton - 1.39 Fulham

  • 0-2 Fulham and 2-1 Burton last 2 head to heads.
  • There have been -2.5 goals in 8/9 Burton away matches against top-half teams and they have drawn the first half in 7/9 such matches.
  • Fulham have scored first in 11/14 home matches against bottom-six teams.

Fulham (8th)

  • 4 wins and a 2-2 last 5 matches.
  • 4 consecutive home wins.
  • No home 0-0.
  • 5 1-0 scorelines and 4 0-0 scorelines at halftime at home.
  • Only 2 home defeats v 5th and 17th.
  • 2-1, 2-1, 1-1, 1-0 at home v 19th and lower.
  • 12 of 17 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Burton (22nd)

  • 3 consecutive wins away. A light at the end of the tunnel for Cloughie and co.?
  • Only 1 loss in 6 aways.
  • 7 0-0's at halftime away.
  • v 15th and higher away, failed to score in 7 of 8 matches.

Conclusions

  • You don't win if you can't score. What is with Burton and the top 15? They cannot seem to score. So their 3 consecutive away wins must have come v lower half teams.
  • Fulham in contrast have 4 wins at home in a row now. Scorelines have been tight note v 19th and lower at home.
  • As I say though, Burton don't tend to land a blow so if scoring must be layed.

15:00 - Wolves v Nottm Forest - 1.35 Wolves

  • 1-0 and 1-2 Wolves last 2 head to heads.
  • Wolves have won 9/11 home matches while Nottm Forest have lost 7/9 away matches against top-six teams.
  • Nottm Forest have drawn the first half in 8/12 away matches against top-six teams.

Wolves (1st)

  • Only 3 defeats. Only 1 home defeat.
  • Failed to score in only 4 matches.
  • 8 wins in 9 at home.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime at home. Unbeaten at halftime at home.
  • 100% wins at home v 7th to 21st inclusive.
  • 9 of 10 goals conceded at home came 2nd half.

Nottm Forest (15th)

  • Only 2 draws came in the last 2 away matches.
  • Failed to score in their last 4 matches.
  • All defeats home and away v top 5. 2-0, 2-1, 2-1 away.

Conclusions

  • Wolves on probability alone are unlikely to lose. We may see a 2-0 or 2-1 scoreline today as happens with Forest away v top 5.
  • Wolves are unbeaten at halftime at home and are the likelier first half scorers. If conceding, Wolves tend to concede 2nd half.
  • I would lay any late draw to break the Forest away draw sequence (only 2 draws all season).

15:00 - Preston v Birmingham - 1.81 Preston

  • 2-1 and 1-3 Preston in the last 2 head to heads.

Preston (10th)

  • Only 1 loss in 11 matches was a 2-3 loss.
  • 6 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Unbeaten home and away v 11th and lower.

Birmingham City (23rd)

  • 2 wins in 3 matches.
  • No 0-0 away.
  • Only 1 away win - that was the only match where Birmingham scored 2 goals away from home.

Conclusions

  • The odds look right here. If Birmingham cannot score 2 goals regularly enough, then they are vulnerable. I would expect Preston not to lose today. A simple enough angle.

SPANISH LA LIGA

12:00 - Espanyol v Sevilla - 2.76 Sevilla

  • The market cannot split these 2.
  • Another new manager for Espanyol. 2 matches in.
  • Espanyol are on a 4 match unbeaten run, 2 wins and a draw last 3 matches.
  • The 2 wins were 1-0.
  • 4 defeats in 5 for Sevilla and 7 defeats in 8 away.

Conclusions

  • I'm not going too indepth here as Espanyol have a new manager. Their performance v Atl Madrid at home may be the template today. Keep it 0-0 for as long as possible and nick a winner.
  • They are certainly playing a team in Sevilla who are collapsing away from home. Alaves beat them 1-0 last match so that is a template for Espanyol.
  • A match I probably will not play. Sevilla are 6th for a reason for goodness sake. Their home team players are the same who play away so this away form is a complete mystery.

15:15 - Atletico Madrid v Girona - 1.37 Atl Madrid

  • Statistically the best defence in Spain, Atl Madrid take on a newly promoted side.
  • Atl. Madrid have won 13/14 home matches against middle-third teams and they have scored first in 8/10 home matches.
  • There have been +2.5 goals in 6/9 Girona away matches.

Atl Madrid (2nd)

  • 2-2 when these 2 last met. I remember it well. 2-0 Girona became 2-2. I would have won £5K had Atl Madrid won!!
  • Only 1 loss came away.
  • Failed to score in only 4 matches.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • All wins v 6th and lower at home. Not conceded a 2nd goal in a home match and only once all season.
  • 8 of 10 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Girona (10th)

  • 2 consecutive away defeats.
  • Scored in their last 13 matches and last 7 away.
  • Conceded 2+ goals away v top 12 teams.

Conclusions

  • I can only dream of a Girona 0-2 lead today. That is unlikely to happen. Atl Madrid concede 2 goals very rarely and Girona are going to find life tough today.
  • Do note Atl Madrid's strong 2nd half scoring at home so fear not a 0-0 or an unlikely Girona lead.
  • Atl Madrid as I say are unlikely to concede 2 goals. So if Girona lead 0-1 who is likely to be the next goal scorers?

17:30 - Villarreal v Levante - 1.43 Villareal

  • Villarreal have drawn the first half in 6/9 home matches against bottom-half teams as have Levante in 6/8 away matches.
  • There have been -2.5 goals in 5/8 Levante away matches.
  • 1-0 Levante in the last head to head.

Villareal (5th)

  • 3 consecutive 0-1 away wins. 1-1 last home match.
  • Unbeaten at halftime at home.
  • 13 games under new manager - I thought I sniffed an improvement.
  • Only 3 losses under new manager v Sevilla, Leganes and Barcelona.
  • 2 home losses v top 6 teams only.
  • 11 of 15 goals scored at home came 2nd half.
  • 6 of 7 goals conceded at home came 2nd half.

Levante (16th)

  • Only 3 wins.
  • Failed to score in 6 of their last 7 matches.
  • 3 0-0's recently.
  • 2 0-0's in the last 3 aways.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime away.
  • Only away win v 20th.

Conclusions

  • 0-0 may be in play for Levante. We may even see 0-0 at halftime but I would suspect Villareal could score 2nd half.
  • Levante are having trouble scoring and even if they score first, they should not win.
  • Do not be surprised with a 0-0 and you may even want to risk backing it pre match in the hope Villareal score 2nd half. I would trade out halftime.

19:45 - Las Palmas v Valencia - 1.72 Valencia

  • Las Palmas have actually won the last 2 home head to heads.
  • New manager for Las Palmas 2 matches in.
  • Las Palmas have conceded first in 9/12 home matches against top-six teams while Valencia have scored first in 7/10 away matches against bottom-six teams.
  • Las Palmas have lost 6/10 home matches against top-six teams.

Las Palmas (bottom)

  • No change in fortune under new manager. 3 consecutive defeats.
  • Win, Draw, Loss last 3 at home.
  • No 0-0.
  • Lost to all top 6 home and away.
  • Lost 1-5 to 2nd at home.

Valencia (3rd)

  • Failed to score in only 3 matches.
  • 2 consecutive wins.
  • No away 0-0.
  • Unbeaten at halftime away.
  • All wins bar a draw in 11 matches v teams 10th and lower.
  • Scored and conceded away v teams 15th and lower.
