Plenty to get excited about today. I will schedule a live chat webinar for 14:30 UK time (21:30 here). I am going to the airport to meet my Dad today and if he needs company, I will stay with him, so please excuse me if I do not make the live chat webinar. He has an early flight the next morning so will likely have an early night so.....if I can make it home on time, I will do my live chat webinar!

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

12:30 - Leicester v Chelsea - 2.68 Leicester

  • You know the drill here with 2.68 the favourite. Too tough to call. Top 4 clash.
  • Leicester are yet to beat the top 5 but have not played 2nd-5th at home.
  • 1-1 last time these 2 met.
  • Chelsea.....are yet to beat the top 5. 2-1 and 4-0 losses away v 2nd and 5th.
  • That's as clear as mud then!

15:00 - Bournemouth v Aston Villa - 2.16 Bournemouth

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 8/12 Bournemouth home matches against bottom-six teams and in 8/10 Aston Villa away matches. Aston Villa have lost 8/12 away matches.

Bournemouth - 18th

  • Only 2 wins since 9th November 2019.
  • 3-1 win v Brighton last home match a sign of a turnaround?
  • Failed to score in 7 of their last 10 matches.
  • Conceded in their last 7 and last 6 at home.
  • Both sides have 25% 0-0 at halftime.
  • 3 home wins v 5th, 12th and 15th (3-1 v 12th and 15th).
  • 1-2 win v Villa earlier.

Aston Villa - 16th

  • Win and draw last 2 away matches.
  • 4 clean sheets only.
  • Conceded last 5 and last 12 away.
  • All Villa wins v 12th and lower home and away.
  • 19 of 24 goals conceded away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • A match leaving me a tad underwhelmed. Bournemouth are in panic mode but beat Brighton last home match. The market sees them as favourites today. Villa have 2 unbeaten away matches v Burnley and Brighton.
  • In-play stats for me or not at all I'm afraid. Do note that Villa wins come v 12th and lower home and away. Bournemouth are in that section of the league.

Liverpool v Southampton - 1.31 Liverpool

Liverpool - 1st

  • Researching before result of West Ham mid week match known. I have to start this early because of the work load.
  • 12 consecutive home wins.
  • 4 consecutive home clean sheets.
  • Scored last 23 matches.
  • No 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • Led halftime in 11/12 home matches.

Southampton - 9th

  • Form since 30th November is the form to focus on. 7 wins, 3 defeats and a draw in 11 matches. Amazing turn around under Ralph.
  • 4 consecutive away wins includes the scalps of Leicester and Chelsea. Did draw 1-1 with Tottenham too in the cup recently so could be a thorn.
  • Scored last 11 away.
  • Lost 2-1 away v 2nd, home v Liverpool but won 1-2 away v 3rd and 0-2 away v 4th.
  • 10/14 goals conceded away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • Southampton may surprise here. 4 consecutive away wins, 2 recent away wins v 3rd and 4th. Only losing 2-1 v Liverpool last time these 2 met.
  • Watch out Liverpool! They'll need one of the 3 Musketeers to be on their game tonight you feel, to get that 2nd goal as the Saints could well score. Will they score 2 goals?
  • Liverpool have had no 0-0 at halftime at home. Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market on that basis?

Watford v Everton - 2.7 Everton

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 9/14 Watford home matches and in 7/11 Everton away matches against bottom-six teams. Everton have conceded first in 6/9 away matches against bottom-six teams.
  • 2 new managers making positive impacts means a no play for me. Watching brief.
  • Win, Win, Win, Draw at home for Watford under Pearson. Unbeaten at home at halftime too. 3 clean sheets.
  • 1-2 loss away v Man City and 1-1 draw v West Ham recently for Everton under Ancellotti.
  • DO you like the Watford clean sheets (3/4 at home?) under Nigel Pearson?

Newcastle v Norwich - 2.3 Newcastle

  • 1st half outcome: Newcastle have drawn the first half in 9/13 home matches against bottom-six teams while there have been -2.5 goals in 5/6 Norwich away matches against middle-third teams. Norwich have lost 5/6 away matches against middle-third teams.

  • 50% 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • 0-0 at home v 15th, 2-1 win at home v 18th and 1-1 v Watford - 19th.
  • 3-1 loss to Norwich earlier.

Norwich - 20th

  • Only 4 wins.
  • 4 losses in 5 away matches.
  • Only 3 clean sheets.
  • Conceded in their last 5 away.
  • Only 1 away win v 12th.
  • 5/6 goals scored away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • Newcastle are unbeaten v 15th and lower at home but have only 1 win in 6 matches. They lost heavily v Norwich last head to head.
  • I am not confident personally in trusting these 2 teams.

West Ham v Brighton - 2.66 West Ham

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 8/9 West Ham home matches against bottom-six teams and in 8/12 Brighton away matches. Brighton have lost 8/11 away matches.
  • New manager for West Ham has me reluctant to research. 3 losses in 4 for West Ham under David Moyes, football genius. But to be fair they have met the likes of Liverpool and Leicester.

Crystal Palace v Sheff Utd - 2.62 Sheff Utd

  • -2.5 goals: There have been -2.5 goals in 10/12 C Palace home matches and in 5/6 Sheffield Utd away matches against middle-third teams. Sheffield Utd have drawn 4/6 away matches against middle-third teams.
  • Oh no, not 2.62 the favourite!

Palace - 11th

  • 4 consecutive score draws ended with a lose last match.
  • Conceded in their last 8 matches.
  • 67% 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • Unbeaten at home v 10th and lower.
  • 1-0 loss v Utd earlier.
  • 3/4 losses at home came v the top 3.
  • 9/10 goals scored at home came 2nd half 8/12 goals conceded at home came 2nd half.

Sheff Utd - 8th

  • Only 1 win in 6 matches.
  • 2 losses and a draw last 3 away matches.
  • 8 consecutive under 2.5 goals matches.
  • Only lost to the top 2 away.
  • 7 draws away.
  • 9 of 12 goals scored away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • Draws seem to pervade with both sides. 4 draws in 5 for Palace and 7 draws away for Sheff Utd. Both teams can be given a chance here....hence 2.62 the favourite.

17:30 - Man Utd v Wolves - 2.26 Man Utd

  • 1st half outcome: Man Utd have won the first half in 6/9 home matches against top-half teams while Wolves have lost the first half in 5/8 away matches against top-six teams. Man Utd have scored first in 7/9 home matches against top-half teams.

Man Utd - 5th

  • 4 losses since 22nd December were 2-0. 3 2-0 losses in their last 4 matches. 2 consecutive 2-0 losses.
  • A 9 match unbeaten home run ended with a shock 0-2 loss v Burnley.
  • Only 2 0-0's at halftime all season.
  • No 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • Beat 3rd, 4th and 6th at home.

Wolves - 7th

  • 3 losses in 5 matches.
  • Only 4 clean sheets.
  • Scored and conceded in 8 of their last 9 matches.
  • No 0-0 at halftime since 27th October 2019.
  • 3 0-0's at halftime away (25%).
  • 1-1 the last time these 2 met.
  • 11 of 15 goals conceded at home came 1st half.
  • 12 of 17 goals scored away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • This could be a tough to call match as per the 1-1 the last time these 2 met. Both teams tend to score in Wolves matches.
  • An argument to lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market.

SPANISH LA LIGA

12:00 - Granada v Espanyol - 2.76 Granada

  • -2.5 goals: There have been -2.5 goals in 7/10 Granada CF home matches and in 6/9 Espanyol away matches against middle-third teams. Granada CF have won 6/10 home matches.
  • 2 wins in 3 at home for Granada.
  • They scored in their last 9 at home.
  • Granada are unbeaten at home at halftime.
  • 5 wins and a single loss for Granada v 10th and lower. Granada are 11th and Espanyol are 20th.
  • 4/4 wins v 17th and lower without conceding.
  • 2 draws and a win last 3 matches for Espanyol.
  • 4 losses away ended with a win v Villareal.
  • Espanyol conceded in their last 11 and last 5 away.
  • 0-3 loss for Espanyol v Granada last time these 2 met.
  • Angles? 2.76 suggests that it is too tough to call. Granada note have a 100% win record v 17th and lower and play 20th.

15:00 - Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid - 1.86 Real Madrid

  • 1st half outcome: Real Madrid have drawn the first half in 9/14 home matches against top-six teams while there have been -2.5 goals in 9/10 Atl. Madrid away matches. Atl. Madrid have drawn the first half in 7/10 away matches.
  • 2 consecutive 0-0's in head to heads. I won't research this high profile Madrid derby.

17:30 - Mallorca v Valladolid - 2.3 Mallorca

  • 1st goal: Mallorca have scored first in 6/11 home matches while Valladolid have conceded first in 15/20 away matches. There have been -2.5 goals in 8/10 Valladolid away matches.

Mallorca - 17th

  • Only 2 wins in 12 matches.
  • Beat Valencia 4-1 last home match.
  • Only 3 clean sheets.
  • Failed to score in 3 of their last matches.
  • Conceded last 12 matches.
  • 3-0 loss to Valladolid earlier this season.
  • Only 1 home loss v 7th and lower.

Valladolid - 16th

  • 5 draws in 7 matches.
  • Failed to score in 7 of their last 9 matches.
  • Failed to score last 4 away matches.
  • 55% 0-0 at halftime away.
  • Unbeaten home and away v 15th and lower,

Conclusions

  • Valladolid tend not to lose v 15th and lower. Mallorca too have only 1 home loss v 7th and lower. Add in their league positions and this may be a match to trade via in-play stats.

20:00 - Valencia v Celta Vigo - 1.79 Valencia

  • HT/FT: Valencia have had W/W double results in 6/8 home matches against bottom-six teams and they have won the first half in 6/8 such matches. Celta Vigo have lost 7/11 away matches.

  • 4 wins in 5 matches at home.
  • Failed to score only once.
  • Scored in their last 19 and last 11 at home.
  • 45% 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • 1-0 loss to Celta last time these 2 met.
  • Unbeaten at home.

Celta Vigo - 18th

  • 4 draws in 5 matches.
  • Scored and conceded last 6 away.
  • No win in 7.
  • 60% 0-0 at halftime away.
  • Only 1 away win v 8th. Unbeaten away v 3rd-9th.
  • 14 of 19 goals conceded away came 2nd half.
  • 80% goals scored away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • Valencia do not lose at home....yet. Enough to side with the home side? Valencia have scored in their last 19 matches.
  • Celta intriguingly are unbeaten v 3rd-9th away so draw best case for Celta if Valencia maintain their unbeaten record.

ITALIAN SERIA A

14:00 - Bologna v Brescia - 1.74 Bologna

  • Match outcome: Bologna have won 6/9 home matches against bottom-six teams while Brescia have lost 6/10 away matches. Brescia have drawn the first half in 6/10 away matches.

  • 5 wins and a 0-0 home and away v 16th and lower.

Brescia - 20th

  • 60% 0-0 at halftime away.
  • Only 1 win v top 13 home or away.
  • 12 of 17 goals conceded away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • Bologna should expect a positive result here. Brescia's 3 away wins were 0-1 so if they score first, lay them.

17:00 - Cagliari v Parma - 1.96 Cagliari

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 8/9 Cagliari home matches against top-half teams and in 7/7 Parma away matches against top-six teams. Parma have lost 5/7 away matches against top-six teams.

Cagliari - 6th

  • No win in 7 matches.
  • Conceded 2+ goals in 9 of their last 10 matches. 1-1 v Inter latest.
  • 2 consecutive home losses came after a run of 4 home wins.
  • Only 3 clean sheets.
  • Conceded last 10 matches.
  • 30% 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • 1-3 win v Parma last head to head.
  • Conceded 2 goals at home in 3 matches v the top 8.
  • 70% of goals scored and 81% of goals conceded came 2nd half.

Parma - 7th

  • 2 wins in 5 came at home.
  • 2 consecutive away losses albeit v Atalanta and Juventus.
  • No 0-0 at halftime away.
  • All defeats bar 1 have come v the top 9.

Conclusions

  • Parma tend to collect their losses v the top 9 so may struggle today.
  • Cagliari do give teams a chance, conceding 2+ goals in 9/10 matches.
  • Parma have not had a 0-0 at halftime away but Cagliari have had 30% 0-0 at halftime at home. Are you happy enough to lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market.

19:45 - Sassuolo v Roma - 1.87 Roma

  • 1st goal: Sassuolo have conceded first in 6/9 home matches against top-six teams while Roma have scored first in 10/14 away matches. Roma have won 6/10 away matches.

Sassuolo - 15th

  • Only 2 wins in 10 matches.
  • Failed to score in only 4 matches.
  • Scored and conceded last 8 at home.
  • 10 consecutive over 2.5 goals matches at home.
  • 4-2 loss v Roma earlier this season.
  • 3/3 losses at home v the top 5. Scored and conceding without beating a top 6 side.

Roma - 4th

  • Only 4 losses. 2 losses last 4 matches.
  • 3 wins in 4 matches away.
  • Conceded last 6 matches.
  • 50% 0-0 at halftime away.
  • 6 wins and a 0-0 away v 9th and lower.

Conclusions

  • Roma are solid away v 9th and lower and sometimes threaten 3+ goals. They have a 50/50 chance of 0-0 at halftime but expect over 2.5 goals - 10 consecutive over 2.5 goals matches at home for Sassuolo. I must be with Roma today.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA

14:30 - Mainz v Bayern Munich - 1.22 Bayern

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 11/13 FSV Mainz 05 home matches and in 11/13 Bayern away matches against bottom-six teams. Bayern have won 18/20 away matches against bottom-six teams.

Bayern - 2nd

  • 5 consecutive wins, scoring 6-3-2-4-5 goals.
  • Scored every match.
  • 3 consecutive clean sheets.
  • 2 0-0's at halftime away.
  • 3-6 goals scored v 14th and lower.

Conclusions

  • Solid recent form and goal scoring for Bayern should see a 3+ goal win for them today.
  • Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market.

Fortuna Dusseldorf v Eintracht Frankfurt - 2.12 Frankfurt

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 11/13 FSV Mainz 05 home matches and in 11/13 Bayern away matches against bottom-six teams. Bayern have won 18/20 away matches against bottom-six teams.

  • Only 2 clean sheets.
  • Failed to score in 5 of their last 6 matches.
  • 2-1 loss v Frankfurt last head to head.
  • Not beaten a top 10 side home or away.

Frankfurt

  • 6 recent losses ended with 2 consecutive wins v Hoffenheim and Leipzig - not too shabby.
  • 5 losses away ended with a win last away match.
  • Only 3 clean sheets.
  • Conceded last 9 away matches.
  • No away draw.
  • 3/3 2-1 defeats v 12th and lower.
  • 8/10 goals scored away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • Wow, Frankfurt have been eating their weetabix. 2 consecutive wins v Hoffenheim and Leipzig sees that Winter Break doing them no harm whatsoever. Compare to Dusseldorf with 5 losses in 6 matches and 3/4 losses at home and we'd have to be with a currently hot Frankfurt. Do note 80% of Frankfurt goals scored away came 2nd half.

Augsburg v Werder Bremen - 2.16 Augsburg

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 18/19 Augsburg home matches and in 7/8 W. Bremen away matches against middle-third teams. There have been +3.5 goals in 6/8 W. Bremen away matches against middle-third teams.

  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • 3 home losses v the top 6.
  • 3/3 wins at home v 13th and lower, scoring 4-2-3 goals.
  • 3-2 loss v Werder last head to head.
  • 12 of 16 goals conceded at home came 2nd half.

Werder Bremen - 16th

  • Only 4 wins.
  • Only 2 wins since 21st September 2019.
  • Only 1 clean sheet.
  • No 0-0 this season.
  • Failed to score in 4 of their last 6 matches.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime away.
  • 2-3 win, 1-2 win v 10th and 11th away.

Conclusions

  • Augsburg have 2 goals in them, Werder have 2 goals in them away v 10th and 11th (Augsburg are 12th).
  • Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market.
  • Remember Werder have not had a 0-0 this season.
  • We expect a goal fest but then expected a goal fest last Werder match where they conceded 3 goals without reply.

Dortmund v Union Berlin - 1.28 Dortmund

  • HT/FT: B. Dortmund have had W/W double results in 9/12 home matches against middle-third teams while Union Berlin have lost 6/9 away matches. Union Berlin have conceded first in 6/9 away matches.

Dortmund - 4th

  • A real title race this year thanks to early failures from Bayern Munich. Dortmund are bang in there and must gain revenge over that Union Berlin home win over them.
  • 3 losses only came away from home.
  • Failed to score in only 2 matches.
  • All bar 2 matches were over 2.5 goals matches.
  • 5-4-3-1-5-5 goals scored in recent matches.
  • No defeat in 9 at home.
  • 22% 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • 22 of 31 goals scored at home came 2nd half.
  • 11 goals scored at home first 15 minutes of the 2nd half.

Union Berlin - 11th

  • 3 losses in a row ended with a win last match.
  • 3 losses in 4 away.
  • Failed to score in only 4 matches.
  • Scored and conceded last 6 away.
  • All defeats v top 10 away.

Conclusions

  • Revenge mission? Given Dortmund's recent scoring. They could inflict a revenge win today, scoring 3+ goals if hitting the heights of their last 6 matches. Dortmund are very quick scorers 2nd half so please note that if they are losing or drawing at halftime.
  • Union Berlin's 3-1 win v Dortmund was down to over-exuberance in front of home support for a newly promoted side. I cannot see it being replicated today.

Hoffenheim v Leverkusen - 2.18 Leverkusen

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 8/11 Hoffenheim home matches against top-six teams and in 13/14 Leverkusen away matches against top-half teams. There have been +3.5 goals in 6/11 Hoffenheim home matches against top-six teams.

Hoffenheim - 7th

  • 3 wins in 4 matches.
  • 2 losses in 3 at home. Welcome to the world of the Hoff!
  • Scored last 13 and last 7 at home.
  • Scored and conceded last 5 at home.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • Beat sides either side of Leverkusen in the league at home.
  • 10/15 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Leverkusen - 5th

  • 3 consecutive wins.
  • 22% 0-0 at halftime away.
  • 0-0 last head to head.
  • 10/15 goals scored away came 1st half.

Conclusions

  • All hail the Mighty Hoff. Lord Knows which Hoff turns up today. The one in form? 3 wins in 4 matches? Or the home Hoff with 2 losses in 3 matches? They are scoring so note that.
  • Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market so says the seasonal stats. But 2/3rd of their goals scored at home came 2nd half, 2/3rd of Leverkusen goals scored away came 1st half.
  • As ever with the Hoff a watching brief is recommended with a stern look at their in-play stats. They are scoring, just to remind you.

17:30 - RB Leipzig v Mgladbach - 1.58 RB Leipzig

  • -2.5 goals: There have been -2.5 goals in 7/8 RB Leipzig home matches against top-six teams and in 13/20 B. M'gladbach away matches. B. M'gladbach have drawn the first half in 8/12 away matches.

Leipzig - 1st

  • Only 3 losses. Lost last match away at Frankfurt and were one of a group of sides with very poor shots on and off target stats, ending a run of 9 matches in which Leipzig scored 3 goals. They failed to score last match.
  • 5 consecutive home wins.
  • Failed to score only last match.
  • 2+ goals scored last 5 at home.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime at home (11%).
  • 1-3 win v Mgladbach earlier. Both teams scored in all matches v the top 8.
  • Not beaten the top 6 at home (2 matches).

Mgladbach - 3rd

  • No win in 4 away.
  • 33% 0-0 at halftime away.

Conclusions

  • Mgladbach are yet to meet the top 2 away.
  • Leipzig are yet to beat the top 5 at home yet are strong favourites today, despite a woeful away performance last match where they ended their scoring run.
  • If Leipzig can return to scoring ways, then they will be a real threat.
  • I am 50/50 with a lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market, based on Leipzig for sure but 33% 0-0 away for Mgladbach is a concern - a tad high -that's a 1/3rd of away matches.

DUTCH EREDIVISIE

17:30 - ADO Den Haag v Vitesse Arnhem - 2.02 Vitesse

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 11/12 Den Haag home matches against top-six teams and in 10/11 Vit. Arnhem away matches against bottom-six teams. Vit. Arnhem have won the first half in 6/9 away matches against bottom-six teams.

ADO Den Haag - 17th

  • Only 4 wins all season.
  • Draw, Draw, Draw, Draw, Win at home.
  • No win at home v the top 13.
  • 0-2 win v Vitesse last head to head.

Vitesse - 6th

  • Draw, Win, Win, Win, Draw latest matches.
  • After 3 away defeats, 2 consecutive away wins now.
  • 2+ goals scored last 3 away.
  • 4/4 wins v 13th and lower away.

Conclusions

  • I cannot see ADO doing the double against Vitesse who would have a perfect record v 13th and lower but for the ADO defeat earlier this season.
  • Vitesse are hitting form at the right time and play a side, remember, with only 4 wins all season and no win at home v the top 13. I expect Vitesse to continue to score their 2 goals as they have done recently.

18:45 - FC Twente v Sparta Rotterdam - 2.36 TC Twente

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 7/10 Twente home matches and in 7/10 Sparta R'dam away matches. There have been +3.5 goals in 5/10 Twente home matches.

18:45 - Feyenoord v Emmen - 1.27 Feyenoord

  • Match outcome: Feyenoord have won 12/18 home matches while Emmen have had L/L double results in 6/7 away matches against top-six teams. Emmen have lost 6/7 away matches against top-six teams.

Feyenoord - 3rd

  • 7 wins and 2 draws last 9 matches. Really in the groove now.
  • 3-2-3-3 goals scored last 4 matches.
  • 4 consecutive home wins.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • 2/3 losses came v the top 2.
  • 3-3 last head to head.
  • 14 of 22 goals scored at home came 1st half.

Emmen - 12th

  • Only 2 wins in 8 matches came at home.
  • 5 losses and 2 1-1 draws last 7 away matches.
  • No win in 10 away.
  • Conceded last 10 away.
  • 7 consecutive under 2.5 goals matches.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime away.
  • 2+ goals conceded away in all bar 2 matches.

Conclusions

  • We must be with Feyenoord now they have hit some solid form, helped in no small part by an winless-away Emmen who tend to concede 2+ goals.
  • Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market.

19:45- PEC Zwolle v FC GRONINGEN - 2.74 PEC Zwolle

  • +2.5 goals: There have been +2.5 goals in 10/10 Zwolle home matches and +3.5 goals in 11/12 Zwolle home matches. Groningen have drawn the first half in 7/10 away matches.
